At May Veterinary, getting to know our pet families well is a top priority. We’ve been taking care of pets in the greater Tuscaloosa area for generations. We offer a comprehensive set of preventive care services to make sure your favorite companion gets the best veterinary care throughout their lifetime.

What to Expect

Routine veterinary care helps keeps your pet healthy and happy. We recommend annual wellness visits for pets to assess their overall well-being as they grow. At every wellness exam, our experienced doctors perform the following:

  • Comprehensive Physical Exam
  • Bloodwork
  • Dental and Oral Exam
  • Hair Coat Assessment
  • Nutrition and Preventative Medicine discussions

We strongly believe in taking the time to understand your pet’s individual needs. We listen to your questions and concerns, and work with you to build mutual trust so we can provide the best veterinary care for your pet.

Senior Wellness Care

Pets who are about six or seven years of age are considered to be in the senior stage of life. May Veterinary offers a Senior Pet Wellness Plan because we know older cats and dogs have specific health needs that require personalized care. Our senior wellness plans include a comprehensive internal medical review, bloodwork, urinalysis, and recommended vaccinations. We also discuss diet and nutrition, behavioral concerns, and preventative medicine for your aging pet.

Vaccinations

Keeping your pets current on their vaccinations builds a strong foundation for their overall health. At May Veterinary, we recommend core vaccinations for new puppies and kittens, followed by booster shots for adult and senior pets:

Dogs under 7 years old:

  • Rabies
  • Distemper
  • Parvo
  • Corona
  • Bordetella

Outdoor Cats:

  • Rabies
  • FVRCP
  • Leukemia
  • Bordetella

Indoor Cats:

  • Rabies
  • FVRCP
  • Bordetella

Parasite Prevention

Internal and external parasites can cause havoc to pets and humans alike, so keep your pet free of fleas, ticks, roundworms, hookworms, and tapeworms with regular fecal checks and blood tests. Please bring your pet to May Veterinary if you notice vomiting, diarrhea, and unexplained weight loss – these could be symptoms of an internal parasitic infection.
